Coxsackie Creek Wetland Acquisition

In June 2004, the Trust submitted an application under the NYSDEC Hudson River Estuary Program for the purpose of acquiring approximately 40 acres of riparian wetlands along the Coxsackie Creek. The property was the former Collier Farm, and is characterized by flooded forested wetlands along the creek and a wet meadow area. The property is habitat for beaver, wood duck and a wide range of other species. If successful, the project will add to the Coxsackie Creek Preserve holdings that have been acquired by the Greene County Industrial Development Agency. Athens Generating Riverfront Barn Site

As a condition of their Article 10 permit, the Athens Generating Plant committed to a donation of a small riverfront parcel that adjoins the Cohotate Preserve. The site also contains a historic barn structure that has breathtaking views of the Hudson River, and is highly visible from both Olana as well as the Rip VanWinkle Bridge.  The Trust plans to use the site in cooperation with Greene County and the GCSWCD to provide secondary access to the Cohotate Preserve, with the barn slated to be used as a storage and maintenance area for the GCSWCD as well as the Trust. The barn will be used as a base for stewardship of the Trust’s various properties in the area.

In April 2004, an application was submitted to the Hudson River Foundation under the Catskill-Olana Mitigation Fund for replacing the roof and windows, and painting the barn a more traditional color scheme. When refurbished, the barn will be a beacon from many scenic vantage points in the area.  The Trust hopes to take possession of the property by the end of 2005.
